CGI, VFX, and Concept Design

Here is the reel of my VFX, CGI and Concept Design contributions to Story Company’s first science fiction short film Planet. Set in a NASA-core, hard sci-fi near-ish future, it tells the story of a man whose multi-century goal is to build an artificial planet, and who learns in the process about the costs of his singular dedication.
It was a thrilling honor and a delightful creative challenge working with Jason Carman and the whole Story Company team. My tasks ranged from full-CG shots to integrating my rendered VFX with beautiful live action plates shot by the team on-set. Production support also included generating various graphics and materials to be printed and used as props by actors on-set. All of my final visuals rest on top of a several-month period of concepting vessels, locations, and the titular man-made Planet from scratch.
Blender and Physical Celestial Objects, Photoshop, SynthEyes for camera tracking, After Effects for MultiLayerEXR pipeline work, Bambu for 3D concept prints, and last but not least a bunch of sketchbooks full of spaceships and planets–10 months of creative joy (and occasional anxiety).
