cinema4d and after effects
This project is built on an educational series and gave me the opportunity to translate some technical skills into Cinema4D and Adobe After Effects. It’s comforting to identify familiar workflows when learning new tools, and at the same time it’s exciting to discover the capabilities of new tools.
Below are a some in-application screenshots as well as a couple of assets I modified for the small story snippet. I spent some time animating textures, tweaking cloned sets with the Mograph Selector, adding accent lighting, setting up match cuts and finessing flow in C4D. Then I followed up by adding audio, timing, and stylization in After Effects. Then I checked the final product, noticed five things I missed, and repeated that process a dozen times, polishing toward the final product.
If I started from scratch, I would break it into three projects in C4D and render extra frames on either end of each shot to facilitate tweaking in AE. I’d also output layered EXRs rather than individual PNG files. Noting how to improve and recognizing how best to leverage these apps for fast, effective image-making made this project a joy to produce.
